Nvidia has finally announced that they have decided to acquire PhysX card maker Ageia Technology. PhysX cards (or PPUs as their called) serve the purpose of extending realism by allowing games to simultaneously handle hundreds of 'physics' instructions.
Although Ageia's PhysX physics accelerator cards only met moderate success on the PC. The popularity of these cards can be gauged by the fact that all current-generation consoles (including Xbox360, PS3, and Wii) accommodate this chip..
Ageia has already licensed out its Physx technology to a lot of game-makers which includes hits like Gears of War, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, Red Steel, and Unreal Tournament 3.
It is clearly evident what Nvidia plans to do with PhysX is evident the company CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has announced in a Press Conference that "By combining the teams that created the world's most pervasive GPU and physics engine brands, we can now bring GeForce®-accelerated PhysX to hundreds of millions of gamers around the world,"
It is Expected that Nvidia integrate PhysX technology on to its own chipsets and and it could also alter current standing with game developers... But nothing is confirmed we have to wait and see...!
